What is solar PV?

Solar PV (photovoltaic) systems convert light energy from the sun into electricity. The power generated feeds straight into your existing electricity system and is used in exactly the same way. PV modules come in various forms and can be mounted on top of conventional roofing materials or integrated directly into the fabric of the building using solar PV roof tiles or roof integration systems.

• Solar PV systems are practicable for most buildings - new build or retro-fit - and result in no loss of usable building space.
• Every unit of PV generated electricity qualifies for payments under the feed in tariff.

How will solar PV save money?

You won’t need to buy so much power from your electricity provider. In addition, you will get paid for all the electricity you generate, even if you use it yourself! If you produce more than you use you will be paid extra for the surplus that is fed into the national grid.

How is the solar electricity paid for?

From April 2010 the Government’s Clean Energy Cash Back scheme will pay home-generators a premium rate for electricity from renewable sources (such as solar PV or wind energy) – for up to 25 years! And if you order before April 2010 your project could also get a Government grant worth up to £2500.
