House Builders & Housing Associations

Solar PV systems for house builders and housing associations

Solar PV systems are increasingly being specified for installation on housing projects. Simple to fit and easy to integrate into the build programme, the installation of solar PV panels to a house provides a visible statement, reliable energy generation, reduction of energy bills and an effective way to meet planning conditions or code for sustainable homes targets.

Photovoltaic (PV) modules generate electricity from sunlight. PV modules come in various forms and can be mounted on top of conventional roofing materials or integrated directly into the fabric of the building – using solar PV roof tiles or roof integration systems. For more technical information see oursolar PV pages.

Solar PV and the feed in tariff

The Government’s new feed in tariff is due to start in April 2010. This cash back scheme will pay a premium rate for electricity generated from renewable sources such as solar PV – fixed for up to 25 years. The feed in tariff means that the payback period for solar PV systems has dropped significantly and net income can now be predicted reliably. It is expected that feed in tariff rules will permit payments direct to a housing association (where required).

Solar PV systems and the code for sustainable homes

Solar PV systems can provide a predictable and reliable means of achieving the CO2 savings required to meet Code level 3 and are expected to be adopted widely on properties designed to Code level 4 and above.

For many housing bodies, the potential for feed in tariff income has made solar PV the logical choice to help achieve code level compliance.

Solar PV kits

Sundog Energy has developed a range of PV kits for multiple housing projects. Supplied with all the parts necessary to assemble and fix the array, with a matched inverter, these kits simplify design and purchasing for trade customers.

Sundog Energy PV kits are ideally suited to installation by trade’s operatives with some experience of fitting solar PV systems. However, we also offer a range of training and support services to develop your own in‐house solar PV system specification and installation capabilities. When you buy solar PV kits from Sundog Energy, you benefit from our bulk purchasing power and also our expertise in PV system design and installation.
