Solar PV system for my house - solar survey

This survey is designed to make it easy for you to obtain a free and accurate quote for a solar PV system for your home.

The survey is simple to complete - there are 4 pages and 16 questions. Your completed survey will provide us with all the information we need to assess your site. It may be that we also need to do a site visit. However, from our vast experience of designing thousands of systems since 1995, we generally find that the information provided by this survey is all we require at this stage.

On receipt of the completed survey we will email you a free assessment of the suitability of your roof for solar PV and a costing for an appropriate system.

Typical costs for domestic scale systems

In considering the options for a Solar PV system for your home, the following table should help with the choosing the most appropriate size of system

System Annual Output FIT Payment CO2 saved Price Array
Above Roof 1.44KWp 1,200KWh £495.60 681kg from ~£8,400 10.7m2
Above Roof 1.8KWp 1,500KWh £619.50 852kg from ~£9,800 13.4m2
Above Roof 2.16KWp 1,800KWh £743.40 1,022kg from ~£11,300 16.1m2

Output and CO2 figures are typical annual values. Generation figures calculated according to MIS002. FIT payment calculated at 2010 generation rate. CO2 savings assume 0.568kg per KWh (Part L Building Regs).

Area of operation (domestic systems only)

Sundog Energy installs domestic solar PV systems in an area from Glasgow and Edinburgh in the North, to Chester, Sheffield and Hull in the South.

Page 1 - Basic roof details

Tell us the basic facts of your roof.

First, we need some basic information on the roof you are considering for your solar PV system:

What is the current roofing material?

The roofing material affects the type of fixings required to mount the PV array.

What is the condition of the roof?

The condition of the roof may have a bearing on the type of installation we would recommend and may also affect the labour component of any works.

What is the approximate orientation of the proposed roof?

The orientation of an array affects the output of the PV system.

What is the pitch of the roof?

The pitch at which an array is mounted affects the output of the PV system.

Page 2 - More information about your roof

We need to know some more details about your roof.

These questions provide us with further details about your roof to enable us to consider the factors that may influence installation methods or the placement of the solar panels on the roof.

Do you know what is fitted beneath your tiles / slates?

What is beneath the tiles may have a bearing on the type of installation we would recommend.

Are there any obstructions on the roof - for example soil pipe, flue, chimney, velux or dormer window, solar hot water system etc?

Obstructions will affect the number of solar panels that will fit on to the roof.Obstructions such as dormer windows can significantly reduce the amount of space available for a PV array

Is any of the area of the roof shaded - for example by the building itself, by a chimney, or by other buildings or trees?

Shading has a big effect on the output of any PV arrayShade from chimneys and trees can make a big difference to annual output

Do you have a picture of the roof?

While not essential, a picture of the roof in question can provide us with a huge amount of information, particularly if shade might be an issue. If you are sending a picture with shading shown, please tell us the date and time of day it was taken. This can be posted to us, or uploaded here

Please provide some dimensions of the roof – see diagram.

For an accurate quote these questions require an answer. However, if you would like us to simply estimate the size of system that will fit, leave the fields blank. To accurately assess the number of solar panels that will fit on the roof we need to know what space is available

Can you do a sketch of the roof?

Like a photo, a sketch of the roof can provide a lot of extra information. A quick sketch like the one shown here is all that is required. Again, you can either post it to us, or upload it here.A simple sketch of the roof can provide a lot of extra information - particularly if the roof has windows, etc.

Optional

If you are familiar with online mapping such as Google Maps, Multimap or Streetmap - please copy and paste a link with your house marked.

Page 3 - About your new system

Tell us about the system your looking for.

The first two questions on this page ask what sort of system you want. The second two questions ask some general information about your house. Your answers should provide everything we need to be able to suggest a suitable system for your roof.

What type of system would you like?

Please give us some indication of your requirements

What size system are you thinking of?

Please give us some indication of your requirements

Are there any factors that might make scaffolding difficult to erect around your property?

Is there a spare fuse / circuit breaker available in your fuse box?

A solar PV system will be connected to your fuse box. If there is no spare fuse - don't panic - you'll just need an additional board to be fitted during installation.

Tell us about you and your project

Finally we just need some information about you and contact details so that we can contact you to discuss the project, and to send you any quotes or relevant information.

Do you have any project deadlines? (If not, miss this question out)
