I have recently Just come across PV module that’s marketed as 235Wp +7% to +12% To me that’s a 251Wp module with 0-5% variation in output At first I was thinking – perhaps this is just marketing hype – but on reflection I am not so sure it isn’t more significant … The module rating …

Sundog Energy wins award

Sundog Energy has been honoured with the Developer Award at the 5th annual British Renewable Energy (BRE) Awards, at a gala presentation in London on Thursday 10th June.

Sundog’s nomination for this award was based on the work done by the company to develop the major solar photovoltaic (PV) system on Kings Cross station in London that is due to start being installed later this year by main contractor Kier Construction.  The glass laminate PV system will cover about 2,300 square metres of the massive new glass roof structure over the station’s concourse and platforms.   The 240kWp system will generate around 175,000 units of electricity per year, saving nearly 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year thus reducing the carbon footprint of the station.

Ali Ross, one of Sundog Energy’s Directors, who received the award said “We are thrilled to win this award.  Sundog has a great team who have worked incredibly hard on the Kings Cross project, so it is fantastic to have our achievements recognised.  With the feed-in tariff payments for solar electricity now available, we are expecting large projects like this to become much more commonplace.”

The Kings Cross installation is expected to be completed over an 18 month period, on a precise schedule to synchronise with the movement of the massive rolling scaffold that is edging its way along the platforms and concourse.

The scale of this project on a Grade 1 listed building has presented major technical and aesthetic design challenges, which Sundog has successfully overcome to the satisfaction of the client, Network Rail, main contractor Kier and the planners.   This achievement clearly also impressed the judges of British Renewable Energy Awards.

The Chief Executive, of the Renewable Energy Association, Gaynor Hartnell, commented “These awards recognise outstanding achievement in the British renewable energy sector. They are a tribute to innovation and excellence. The exceptional quality of all the short listed entries serves to demonstrate the exacting standards, talent and originality within this industry.”

The British Renewable Energy Awards were inaugurated in 2006 to pay tribute to the outstanding achievements in the British renewable energy sector across nine different categories.  Sundog was also short-listed for the Company of the year award.
