Sundog Energy expands and appoints new Managing Director

9 February 2011

Sundog Energy, one of the UK’s foremost and longest established solar energy companies, has made several new appointments and is now being joined by Bill Roberts as Managing Director and shareholder in the company.

Martin Cotterell, who founded Sundog in 1995 and has since been its Managing Director, now takes the role of Company Chairman and Technical Director.   Welcoming this appointment, Martin says.  “We are very pleased to have Bill Roberts joining Sundog.  He brings a wealth of commercial experience to the company at an exciting time when our business is set to develop in several key directions.  The technical and financial case for solar PV has never been better”.

Sundog Energy, which recently moved to larger premises in the North Lakes Business Park near Penrith, aims to grow rapidly as the market for solar PV expands.  The company has recently taken on a new Finance Manager, an Operations Manager and office personnel and   is currently recruiting and training several new solar system installers.

In addition to his stake in Sundog Energy, Bill is also a Director of Solway Energy Gateway, which recently signed an agreement to bring the development and manufacture of a new tidal stream generation technology to Cumbria.

Bill Roberts says: “Cumbria is a great location for businesses engaged in renewable energy and the environment.  Sundog’s solar PV systems should have a place in every home, school and business – saving owners’ money and cutting carbon emissions – and I am looking forward to playing a part in these exciting developments.”

Sundog Energy designs and installs solar PV systems for UK households as well as commercial and public sector bodies.   Sundog Energy installs to the highest technical standards, recognised in the company’s successful bid to install the ground-breaking solar PV system on the glazed roof of Kings Cross Station.  Sundog is also a distributor, supplying high quality solar PV panels, components and installation kits to independent solar installers throughout the UK.

Bill Roberts was previously Chairman of Direct Rail Services in Carlisle, where he authorised a new fleet of class 66 locomotives and supported the DRS Board in developing and growing DRS substantially between 2005 and 2010.    He was a founding Director of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and set up the NDA's offices in West Cumbria.  He negotiated a significant increase in funding for nuclear clean-up from the Government.
